A parent was working with her children who had some problems with
writing about the books they read. The problem was the children
didn’t have enough structure and support for their writing. The
children could retell the story and describe what happened in
general terms. They could describe the characters and what they
did. They could even describe the setting. What they needed was
more guidance and resources to help them put what they know into
words on paper. To help solve this problem, I showed the child an
interactive writing activity on the computer.
The Story Studio activity is a fun and engaging activity, with
characters urging the students on. Each story is only four pages
long, which quickly helps the student feel a sense of
accomplishment. There are categories of pictures students can use
to illustrate their stories. Each category corresponds to a story,
so children can write multiple stories. There is simple word
processing functionality to help them get their thoughts into their
writing document. Now they are ready to write about the picture
books they read!
