Friday, I worked with a parent whose child was having difficulty
with putting numbers in order. The child understood the concept of
numbers in order, but needed a lot more practice. Numbers have an
order or arrangement. The number two is between one and three.
Three or more numbers can be placed in order. A number may come
before the other numbers or it may come between them or after them.
To help solve this problem, the parent used FlinkMake to create an
interactive worksheet on the computer. It took only minutes to
enter fifty numbers.
The game is fun and engaging, with an animated one-screen game
board. The child plays against the computer. Each player gets a
list of numbers. The object is to be the first player to get rid of
all your numbers. The child drags a number from his list to the
center. The computer does the same with a higher number. If you
make a mistake, you get another number in your list. The child can
play over and over again with different numbers in the lists. The
parent can make a game in minutes, providing the child with a
limitless number of ordering numbers problems.
